weekend refresh

29 May

Here are a few images from our yurting adventure on the coast. We stayed at Nehalem Bay State Park and visited Tillamook, Manzanita, and Cannon Beach. On Saturday we ate 4 desserts — if that’s not a sign of a successful vacation, I don’t know what is.

memorial day memories

26 May

One year ago this weekend we hosted a Memorial Day gathering at Tyler’s grandparents’ boathouse in Madison. I made sangria, there was lots of food…we were all prepared to have a good ol’ time. Then we tried to actually get into the boathouse. The new key broke in the door. And the spare key was hidden behind a bird’s nest full of babies and a potentially angry mama. Calling Tyler’s mom or aunt would have worked, as they had keys and were close by, but guys being guys, we decided to go another route: break in. Here is the result:

Happy Memorial Day weekend to all. I hope everyone is eating potato salad and hot dogs and wearing stripes and white pants and celebrating America so hard! Did you know that on Memorial Day, the flag is at half-staff until noon, then raised to full-staff for the rest of the day? I did not. Thanks Wikipedia!

change of plans

23 May

Our Seattle trip has been put on hold. Instead, we are doing something super-Oregonian for the holiday weekend: camping along the coast in a yurt!

We are heading to Nehalem Bay State Park near Manzanita for two nights of campfires, bike rides and beachcombing. It will be, I believe, the perfect Memorial Day weekend.

We will have to make a stop in Tillamook to try their cheese curds. I am certain they can’t hold a candle to Wisconsin’s, but I’ll take what I can get! And a bonfire on Oregon’s most famous beach, Cannon Beach, is a must as well. Hopefully is right and the rain will not make an appearance!

In her post today, Joanna from Cup of Jo asked: what three things make you happy?

Here are mine, in no particular order…

A good story. I’m currently reading this one:

Seattle suggestions?

Ty and I are heading to Seattle and Olympic National Park next weekend and are looking for suggestions on activities/restaurants/sights/neighborhoods. If you are familiar with the area, please leave a comment!

We may have to stop at Bella Italia in Port Angeles for dinner, just like a certain vampire and his sullen high school love did on their first date, but other than that our schedule is wide open!
